Voice chat (Simple Voice Chat)
HyperBlocks uses Simple Voice Chat on Java Survival so you can talk in proximity (nearby players hear you) and use optional groups for party-style voice. Bedrock does not use this mod—you need the Java Edition PC client with the mod installed.
Download the latest build
Pick the file that matches your Minecraft version (same as when you join HyperBlocks) and your mod loader.
- Java client mod (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt) — official version list: Modrinth — Simple Voice Chat (mod) — Versions. Use the filters at the top of that page (game version + loader) to find the newest compatible
.jar. - Paper / server plugin build (for your own server or curiosity; HyperBlocks already runs it) — Modrinth — Simple Voice Chat (plugin) — Versions.
- Official documentation (setup, ports, Bungee/Velocity): Simple Voice Chat wiki and setup guide.
How to install (Java, modded client)
For video walkthroughs of installing Simple Voice Chat, watch on YouTube: walkthrough 1 · walkthrough 2 — or use the players below.
- Install a mod loader if you do not already use one — e.g. Fabric, Forge, or NeoForge, matching guides for your Minecraft version.
- Download Simple Voice Chat from the Modrinth versions page: set Game version to the one you play on HyperBlocks, set Loader to Fabric (or Forge / NeoForge / Quilt), then download the latest file shown.
- Put the
.jarin your mods folder — for the default Minecraft launcher this is usually.minecraft/mods(Windows:%appdata%\.minecraft\mods). If the Modrinth page lists a required dependency for that build (for example a config API), download that too and add it to the same folder. - Launch the game with your loader profile (the Fabric/Forge/Neo profile—not “Vanilla”) and join Survival. The first time, allow microphone access if Windows or your browser-style overlay asks.
- Confirm it loaded — in multiplayer, check for a voice-chat icon or press V (default) to open the voice menu. If nothing opens, the mod is not loaded: double-check loader, game version, and that the jar is in the correct profile’s
modsfolder.
How to use in-game
- Open the menu — press V (default key) to open the Simple Voice Chat GUI: settings, mute, groups, and recording options.
- Proximity — when you are not in a private group, players near your character hear you; distance follows server settings (3D positional audio).
- Push-to-talk vs voice activation — configure in the in-game Settings panel (open with V, then the gear). Choose a comfortable push-to-talk key or enable voice activation and adjust sensitivity.
- Whisper — hold the whisper key (set in controls) to talk quietly to nearby players only.
- Groups — create or join a group from the GUI to talk with specific players even when they are far away (party-style). You can invite others with
/voicechat invite <player>or through the social screen, as described on Modrinth. - Server command — use
/voicechatfor HyperBlocks’ voice-chat command shortcuts (see Commands → Community).
For icons (talking, muted, disconnected) and screenshots of the UI, see the Simple Voice Chat project page on Modrinth.
If it does not work
- Version mismatch — the mod build must match your Minecraft version and loader. Mismatches usually mean the mod does not load at all.
- Wrong profile — the Minecraft launcher profile you use to join HyperBlocks must be the one where you installed the mod.
- Microphone blocked — check Windows Privacy → Microphone and that Minecraft is allowed.
- “Not connected” icon — often a blocked UDP path or VPN; try another network or disable VPN for testing. (The host opens the voice UDP port on the server; players normally do not forward ports.)
